"Secret Cove" on the Copper Coast

Dawn light catches the main stack.

I have posted images from this area previously here (updated with a couple of new images by the way) , but this time I have a different perspective, sea level. I don't want to describe how to get here because I don’t feel I want to recommend it in any way but I have found a route to the beach that I felt was quite reasonable without anything too risky.

Mid tide brings some of the foregound interest into play.

It’s an interesting cove with some beautiful sea stacks to capture as well as nice foreground. It has been made a little difficult to capture just at the moment as sunrise is not in the best position being almost in the frame for a lot of angles. Sunset is a little better casting some nice light on the cliffs and stacks if clear. It has taken me quite a few visits to work out the best time to capture it in the best light and tide positions, which during the winter I feel is sunset at low tide.

Sunset just catches the main stack

I struggled a bit with coming up with a composition that truly conveyed the scale of the main stack and having to use a wide angle doesn’t help since it’s so close to shore. I was lucky on one occasion with some sea fog that rolled in  to give the place a more mysterious feel. .

A sea fog rolled in one morning to give a more moody look to the place.

I don’t think I’m done here yet but here are a few images I have come up with so far. Just click on the images to see them full size. As always feel free to comment below, I always love to get a bit of feedback.

Update: February 2019, I just came across a great article about the history of this area including the Possible fort and castle that was once here , link to the article here http://aerialarchaeology.blogspot.com/2014/03/illaunobrick-co-waterford.html
