Dunmore East Cliff walk
The Dunmore East cliff walk is probably well known by locals and is fairly popular but it’s a hidden gem for us outsiders. Access is relatively easy from any of the coves along the coast but probably the easiest is from the car park near the pier in Dunmore East.
The geology is very different from my regular haunts on the Copper Coast just a few miles down the coast across Tramore bay. Its unusual in the fact that the coast line slopes down to the sea with wonderful features and textures.
Best photographed in my experience at close to high tide and probably at dawn as the light will hit the coast line, something I am yet to get out of the scratcher for. The other thing to watch out for is the sea pinks which blooms throughout the months of April and May which is very prevalent along this stretch of coastline.
Didn't spot it initially but there was a sea gulls nest right in the center of the frame , with an egg in it. No birds around at the time so I hope I didnt disturb them.
Probably my favourite feature is a sea stack just east of Rathmoylan cove, something I haven’t seen many images of (if any). I had originally taken images straight on last year and felt that another angle would be much better but on a recent trip I found that the original composition to be best to display the size and unusual shape of this sea stack.
Different composition on this stack, taught this would be better but I feel the front on shows it off better.
Some of the small coves along the way are also well worth a visit but I haven’t feature them here (yet!)
I haven’t been lucky with light of sky on any of my visits but will continue trying, and have really only scratched the surface of this wonderful coastline.
This place is well worth a visit if you are in the area and maybe with the new Redwater series starting on TV might draw a bit of interest to Dunmore east in Waterford.
