The Christmas break is one of my favourite times for landscape photography here in Waterford. Dawn is at a more hospitable time and the light is from the best direction for the Copper coast at both dawn and dusk. The mission this year was to try and find a new location so it was back out for some scouting missions along the coast to areas I haven’t explored as much. I found this stunning cove and it is a place I intend to study a lot more. There’s nothing I enjoy more than finding a new location and then trying to figure out the best compositions.

This place is near Garrarus beach (in-itself a great location) and access is very difficult. The real feature is the unusual sandstone rocks and colour of the sand in this cove. Dawn light also really accentuates the colour in the warm light. I visited at high tide on each occasion as I felt it lends itself to these conditions but I’m not sure if anything else reveals itself at low tide.

The tricky thing at this location was trying to find uncluttered composition with so many rocks on the beach, and then it was just a waiting game for the light to break through the clouds. Below are a few of the images I captured, mainly in colour this time as I feel it better represents the unusual geology of the location, also these colours don’t give a very good tonal contrast  that is so important for B&W images. The only image hat I feel goes on the portfolio page (for now anyway) is the first image on this post. This was such a beautiful and peaceful place and a place I will return to.
